All of Me

We first received a phone call about our little boy on February 6. In the "adoption world," the beginning of February to the middle of June is a really long time. It is not typical to have a potential match to a birth family that far in advance. We knew going into this particular situation that we were taking a bit of a chance and putting our emotions at risk. There is never a way to say with 100% certainty that a birth family will follow through with an adoption plan, and we understand and respect that choice. To be honest, we had assumed that our placement would include a phone call to let us know that a baby had been born and that we were chosen. We weren't expecting a wait after being matched, and we certainly weren't expecting one this long and one that has included so much communication with the birth family. God wanted to exceed our expectations, and He certainly did!

While we were trying to be careful to guard our hearts after that first phone call, we also made the choice to start loving this little boy and praying for him like he is ours. Regardless of the outcome, we knew that God put him in our lives for a reason, and he needed our love and prayers. As has happened many times throughout our adoption journey, a certain song came to mind when all of this came about, and I have listened to it from the perspective of a prospective adoptive parent. Matt Hammitt wrote a song about their little boy who was born with a heart problem. He made the choice to love that baby will all of his heart, knowing that it might get broken in the end. We have made that same choice. We are recklessly loving this little guy, and we know that God will walk us through any outcome that may happen that we are not expecting.
